More than a summer beach stop
Fethiye is known for turquoise water and boat trips, but the town is built on ancient Telmessos, and history is part of everyday life here: rock tombs, sarcophagi, a theatre and castle remains sit in the middle of the modern town.
Ölüdeniz and Babadağ
Ölüdeniz and its lagoon are among Türkiye's best-known coastal views. From Babadağ, the main paragliding launch site, the bay can be seen from around 2,000 metres; paragliding and the cable car are optional and paid separately.
Amyntas, Kayaköy, Tlos and Gemile
The Amyntas rock tombs are carved into the cliff above the town; three temple-style tombs stand out. Kayaköy, south of Fethiye and known in antiquity as Karmylassos, is a quiet abandoned stone village whose silence leaves a strong impression.
Inland, Tlos is one of the oldest settlements of Lycia. Near Ölüdeniz, Gemile Island has church ruins, tombs and cisterns, showing that the coastline carries historic layers as well as swimming coves.
Food, season and booking tips
Local cuisine includes seafood, mezes and regional herb and vegetable dishes. Late spring and early autumn are ideal for combining sea time with walks; midsummer is hot and busy.
Fethiye is a long way from Kayseri, so the way you travel (overnight coach or flight plus transfer) shapes the first day. Check how much free time is planned at Ölüdeniz, which boat trips and activities are optional, and whether Kayaköy or the Lycian sites are actually included. Stay on marked paths at archaeological sites.
